Thanks to the VysionXS ultrasound guidance system developed jointly by Sonoscanner (Ivry-sur-Seine, Val-de-Marne, France), an SME specializing in ultrasound scanners, and Vygon (Écouen, Val-d'Oise, France), the French champion of medical devices, the insertion of a vascular access catheter is now safer than ever. "VysionXS makes it possible to see muscles, nerves and arteries in the tissue and, at the same time, to visualize the trajectory of the needle in this tissue. This avoids pricking where it shouldn't," explains Étienne Richard, Sonoscanner's Director of Operations.
The idea for the partnership between the 18-strong SME and the 2,350-strong ETI, with sales of €310 million, arose from informal exchanges between the managers. "Vygon was looking for an ultrasound guidance solution and was looking around the market," says Étienne Richard. Sonoscanner had just developed a product compatible with this demand, in this case the U-Lite, the only ultra-portable (600 grams) high-definition ultrasound scanner. "We weren't starting with a blank sheet of paper, but the design did take time. In particular, we had to adapt the software to meet Vygon's specifications", admits Étienne Richard.
Now marketed by Vygon as a complement to its vascular access ranges, VysionXS has already won over some twenty medical centers in France and Europe. This success confirms Sonoscanner's position as an innovative leader at a time when the use of portable ultrasound scanners is becoming increasingly widespread. The SME has just signed two major contracts with the Lille hospital and the French Ministry of Defense, and aims to achieve sales of 5 million euros in 2018.
